English version below

Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Gradeleaf (the "App") is a gradebook that lets teachers record students' scores by class on their own device and work out averages. What you enter is stored on your device. This policy explains how the App handles data.

The App has no accounts, and we do not run servers of our own. Student names, scores and notes are never sent to us.

2. Data we do not collect

  • Your (the teacher's) name, email address, phone number or postal address
  • Account information or passwords (the App has no accounts)
  • Location, contacts, calendars or photos
  • Advertising IDs or other tracking identifiers
  • Usage statistics or crash reports
The App contains no third-party SDKs for advertising, analytics or crash reporting. What you enter is never used for advertising, and never shared with or sold to third parties. This is the same in the free version and Pro.

3. Data on your device

The App stores what you enter in its own private storage on your device (an SQLite database):

  • Classes: name and settings such as grading scale, pass mark and decimal places
  • Categories: name and share of the average
  • Students: name, order and a note (only if you write one)
  • Assessments: name, date (optional), points possible and weight
  • Scores: the score for each assessment, and absent / not-handed-in marks
  • App settings: grading scale for new classes, language, theme, backup settings
  • App lock settings (per device; not included in backups). For the app PIN, only a salted, derived value is kept in the device's secure storage, never the PIN itself
About student information: Student names, scores and notes are entered and managed by you, the teacher. We do not receive or see them. If your school or region has rules for handling student information on a personal device (permission, registration and so on), please follow them.

4. When the App uses the internet

PurchaseBuying Pro is handled by Google Play (section 6).
BackupAutomatic backup to your own Google Drive is a Pro feature and runs only after you connect Google Drive (section 5).
LinksOnly when you tap them, the App opens the terms, this policy or the contact page in your browser.

Entering scores, calculating averages and creating CSV and PDF files all work without the internet. The fonts for PDFs are built into the App and are not downloaded.

5. When data leaves your device

Student names and scores leave your device only in these cases, and only when you do it:

  • CSV and PDF export: the App opens your device's share sheet. You choose where it goes (a folder, email, Drive and so on)
  • Backup to a file (free): the App writes an encrypted file to the place you choose
  • Automatic Google Drive backup (Pro): as described below

Google Drive backups are saved in a private area of your own Google Drive that only this App can use (the app data folder, appDataFolder). The App uses only the permission for that area (drive.appdata) and cannot read your other Drive files. Backups are encrypted with a key made from your passphrase before they leave the device (AES-256-GCM). So that you can restore on another phone with the same Google account without the passphrase, the key is also kept in the same private area. We cannot see your Drive and do not know your passphrase.

6. Third-party services

A. Google Play

Used for downloads, updates and payment for Pro. Google handles payment details; we do not receive them. The App also uses Google Play's standard In-App Review to ask for a review.

B. Google Drive

Used with your own account only when you use backup (section 5).

C. Printing and sharing

CSV, PDF and printing open your device's share sheet and print screen. You choose the destination and the printer.

D. Your device's operating system

Depending on your device settings, Android may collect diagnostic data. We cannot control it and do not receive it.

7. Permissions

InternetUsed only for purchases, Google Drive backup and opening links such as the terms.
Google Play billingUsed to buy Pro.
Biometrics (fingerprint, face)Used only when you choose "Phone lock" for the app lock; the App shows Android's own authentication screen. Fingerprint and face data are handled by Android and never reach the App.
File pickerOnly when you restore a backup, the App opens the Android file picker. The App reads only the file you choose.
Network state, wake lock, foreground service, restart after reboot, notificationsDeclared by the component that schedules automatic Google Drive backup (Android WorkManager, Pro). The notification permission is held by that component for long-running work; the App itself never sends notifications.

The App does not use location, contacts, calendars, photos, the camera or the microphone.

8. Screen protection

While the app lock is on, the App keeps its screens out of the recent-apps preview and screenshots.

9. Children

The App is a tool for teachers and other adults; it is not meant to be used by children themselves. Information about students who are children is stored on the device only when a teacher enters it, and is never sent to us.

10. Keeping and deleting data

  • Data stays on your device until you delete it
  • Classes, students, assessments and scores can be deleted in the App at any time (deleting a class also deletes its students and scores)
  • Google Drive backups can be deleted by you from the App's settings or from your Google Drive settings
Important: Uninstalling the App deletes the data on your device. Back up to a file first.

11. Security

Your data is on your device, in storage that Android protects for each app. Because the App holds student information, we recommend a screen lock on your device and the app lock.

12. Your rights

All of the App's data is on your device and in your own Google Drive, and you can view, edit, export or delete it at any time. Because we do not hold your data, there is no data of yours with us to disclose, correct or delete.

13. Changes

If we change this policy, we will announce it on this page and update the date.

14. Contact

Please use the contact form.
